Terms & Conditions

Please read the following conditions carefully as you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to the following conditions.

Booking procedure

After we have received your acceptance of the itinerary, price, and payment procedure, we will make necessary arrangements that normally take about three working days. We will then send to you the confirmation or the availability of the services that you want us to make arrangements.

1. The contract agreement : When you make your booking, you must complete a booking form accepting on behalf or all your party the terms of these booking conditions. By sending the booking form (and paying the deposit if needed – subject to clause 3) you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the following terms and conditions. All persons named on the booking form shall be referred to collectively as either “the client(s)” or “you”. If the booking is made through a travel agent, all communications from the company will be with the agent who acts as agent for the client in regard to all communications from the company to the client.

2. The contract : No contract will exist between the company and the client until the specified deposit (if needed – subject to clause 3) has been paid and the client’s booking made on the booking form has been confirmed in writing by the company with ‘confirmation invoice’.

3. Payment : Before you make a booking with the company, you will be informed if a payment is needed. Depending on the type of hotels and the kind of tour services you use1 we will let you know whether you will need to wire a certain amount of deposit or not. In most cases, we accept the full payment of the tour cost upon your arrival to Myanmar. In some cases, we might ask you to wire the full amount of tour cost no later than 60 to 180 days prior to your arrival date to Myanmar. If the client(s) fails to deposit the required amount, the company may treat the booking as being cancelled by the client. All monies paid by the client to a travel agent under or in contemplation of a contact with the company are held by the travel agent on behalf of the client until such time as the company issues a confirmation invoice in acceptance of the booking. Thereafter, the travel agent holds the client’s money as agents of the company until such time as payment is required by the company.

4. Cancellation by you : Cancellation of a booking must be made in writing, by the person who buy the tour itinerary, and is not effective until such cancellation is received by the company. As the company is dealing with several hotels and transportation or tour services, the company will have to practice the same cancellation policies of such hotels and services. Some hotels , cruise services , and special tour services required deposit from 30% to full payment to confirm the booking . Most of them have a policy to charge minimum 10% to 100% lost of deposit if cancellation or travel date changes are made . Some hotels and cruise services required full payment upon confirmation of the service and have a policy to pay from 10% to lose of full payment if cancelled less than 60-days prior to the commencement of the services. In such case, the company will try the best to negotiate to get the maximum possible amount of refund. The company will not take any advantages or the administration charges except the actual expenses levied if a cancellation is needed by the client(s).

5. Alternation to itineraries : All itineraries operated by the company are the suggested only. It is unlikely that the company will have to make any changes to the client’s suggested tour, but the arrangements are planned many months or weeks in advance. Occasionally changes may be made, which the company reserves the right to do at any time. Most of these changes are minor and the company will endeavor to advise the client of them at the earliest possible date. When a major change becomes necessary, notification of such alternations will be sent to the client’s agent or to the client’s last known address as soon as the company becomes aware. If a major change to an itinerary is necessary prior to commencement of the tour, the client will have the choice of either accepting the change of arrangements, and taking another best available tour from the company, or canceling the tour and receiving a full refund. However the company reserves the right to alter itineraries after departure, without payment of compensation or a refund if it is in the interest of the client to do so. Further more, compensation or a refund is not available if the company is forced to cancel or in any way change the tour due to force majeure, namely war, riot, civil strife, political unrest, industrial dispute, terrorist activity, natural disaster, fire, adverse weather conditions or other material or external circumstances beyond the company’s control.

6. If a client needs to change the confirmed arrangements, any additional cost incurred by the company will be levied. Most hotels and some transportation services do not accept the changes 60-days (a few up to 180-days) prior to the commencement of the service, and these changes will be treated as cancellation to the confirmed arrangement. In such case, the company will try best to negotiate with the service provider to obtain the best possible result. The company will not take any advantages or the administration charges for making changes to the tour except the actual cost claimed by the hotels, third party tour service providers and transportation services.

7. Prices and surcharge policy : After we have confirmed your booking by issuing our ‘confirmation invoice’ i.e. the prices for the arrangements in Myanmar, you will be fully guaranteed and will not be subject to any surcharges. However, the company reserves the right to alter the price if the company need to do so to reflect the changes in factors relating to the increases in transportation costs such as fuel surcharges for domestic flights, sightseeing/transfer cars, and sightseeing/transfer boats that are beyond the company’s control. However, the company will make fullest endeavor to keep up the original arrangements as agreed upon to the best of its capacity and upon the satisfaction of the client.

Payment information

For all the tour prices, we will quote with United State Dollar (US$) only. We are sorry to inform that we cannot accept the payments by credit cards and traveler’s cheques. We normally accept the “Cash-Upon-Arrival” full payment in United State Dollar (US$). However, this policy may not apply to all the tours and you may be asked to pay deposit by wiring to our bank account, which we will inform you the detailed bank information and procedures during the communication with you and the agency. The amount of deposit may also be varied depending on the type of hotel and kind of tour services you want to use. Some high-end hotels, cruises services, and special tour arrangements may require 15% to 100% non-refundable1 deposit upon issuing the confirmation and to secure the booking. In these circumstances, to cover the cost from the cancellation / date changes policies, we will ask you to deposit the required amount claimed by the said services.

Although we prefer to accept all the payments in US Dollar (US$) only, it is possible to accept the payment in Euro (€) as well, subject to the prevailing exchange rate within Myanmar. In contrast, Myanmar does not practice the same international exchange rate between Euro and US Dollar, despite Euro is Myanmar’s official foreign currency. Thus, we will inform you how much it will cost in Euro, after converting with the current exchange rate in Myanmar. In most cases, it is more convenient to settle the payment in US dollar rather than any other currencies.

Please be informed that the use of credit cards and traveler’s cheques are not possible, except at a handful of international hotels, and jewelry shops. In case if you need to cash from these places the amount of cash withdrawal and functionality are very limited as well as very high commission will be charged (up to 30%). Thus, please remember to bring enough US$ cash when visiting Myanmar.

Some hotels/ cruise / tour services ask 15 % to 100 % deposit , which is partially refundable in regard with the number of the days prior to the commencement of their services .For most of the said services, the lost of partial deposit will occur if cancel or date change less than 60-days , while some services may claim full payment if such things happen .

Where can I exchange foreign currencies into Myanmar local currency?

There is an exchange counter as you enter into the Yangon airport arrival lounge. This is an official exchange counter of the government where you can exchange your currency (most preferably from US$ and Euro) officially, without needing to be nervous, although the exchange rate is not up to par. You can find several black marketers in Bogyoke Aung Sang market (usually in the central block) and near MFTB (Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank) adjacent to the Maha Bandoola Park near the city center Sule Pagoda. You may also change at the hotel reception desks. Usually, the best exchange rate you can ever get is only in Yangon, having approximately +10% differences with the other places. Normally, a 100$ bill can get slightly better rate than from smaller bills like 20, 50 and the lowest rates from 1, 5, 10 bills.
Myanmar currency is known as “Kyat”. The bills are as follow:
Notes: Kyat 5000, Kyat 1000, Kyat 500, Kyat 200, Kyat 100, Kyat 90, Kyat 50, Kyat 45, Kyat 20, Kyat 15, Kyat 10, Kyat 5, Kyat 1.
Coins: Kyat 100, Kyat 50, Kyat 10, Kyat 5, Kyat 1, Pya 50, Pya 25, Pya 10, Pya 5, Pya 1.

FEC (Foreign Exchange Certificate)

Nowadays, the need of exchanging your 200US dollars into 200FEC (1US$ = 1FEC) upon arrival airport is waived, although these FEC notes are still widely using throughout Myanmar to pay for hotel charges, entrance fees, airfares etc., to circulate inside the country. By law, it is forbidden to keep any foreign currency in the hand of public. The market rate of FEC is usually lower than US dollar thus; some businesses refuse to accept FEC when the exchange rate difference is huge between USD & FEC. The licensed moneychangers can exchange from FEC to Kyat and vice visa legally.

Credit Cards & Traveler Cheques

We are sorry to inform you that the use of credit cards and traveler cheques are not fully functioning in Myanmar. A handful of upscale hotels can accept cards and cheques exclusively for their in houseguests with certain limitations. Some hotels allow their customers to withdraw cash but with very high commission fees from at least 3 to 20 percents. Also some jewelry shops accept payment in credit cards (no cheques). The Visa & Master cards are most welcomed.

Travelers are advised to bring US Dollars in cash (small denomination notes). British Pounds, and sometimes, even Euro is difficult to change. So bring US Dollars cash to be sure.

What about the use and the rates of Euro and other currencies?

Actually, Myanmar’s official foreign currency is Euro! But for the air/train/boat tickets and most of the hotel payments are accepted only in US dollars. The exchange rate between Euro and US dollar outside Myanmar cannot be applied within Myanmar. Thus, it is best to exchange your currency or Euro into US dollar before coming to Myanmar.

Examine your bills

You cannot expect to change any rumpled, torn bills. Most moneychangers and travel services do not accept US$100 bill starting with CB… and regarded as counterfeiting. And the old bills (also called small head) published earlier than 1991s are also not accepted. All the hotels, travel agents, transport services, shops, and moneychangers in Myanmar accept crisp, clean, un-creased bills only preferably that of 1996 series.

Where and when do we need to use the local currency Kyat?

Most of the local restaurants accept payment only in Kyat. When you need to buy bottles of water, souvenir items, hire taxi/trishaw/bicycle/horse cart/ferry boat , you can use Kyat also. Most upscale hotels prefer US dollars for using the services or for food. You must use US dollars for entrance fees, buying flight/boat/train tickets and hotel payments.
