Myanmar (Burma) Bird Watching Travel Itinerary : XIV
9 Days Bird Watching Travel to South Myanmar (Burma)
For see some speciality Myanmar (South East Asian) bird species

Day 1: Yangon (Myanmar, formerly Burma) arrival day
Arrive at Yangon international airport. Transfer and check in the hotel. If we have time we will do Yangon City bird watching where Little Grebe, Bronze-winged and Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, Lesser Whistling Duck, Common Moorhen, Oriental Darter, Little cormorant, Coppersmith Barbet, Mynas, Bee-eaters, Bulbuls, Tailorbird, Prinia and other bird species will be seen. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 2: Hlawga Wildlife Park – Moeyongyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary
In the morning, we will drive to Hlawga Wildlife Park to do bird watching. Here we will be able to see the rare Pale-capped Pigeon, Racket-tailed Treepie, Red Junglefowl, Green, Blue-tailed and Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters, Green-billed Malkoha, Lesser Racket-tailed and Greater Racket-tailed Drongos, White-rumped Shama, Black-headed, Black-crested, Red-vented, Red-whiskered, Stripe-throated with red eyes which is only found in south Myanmar and near-endemic Streak-eared Bulbuls, White-crested and Lesser Necklaced Laughingthrushes, Puff-throated and Chestnut-capped Babblers, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Ruby-cheeked, Olive-backed and Purple Sunbirds, some water bird species such as Oriental Darter, Spot-billed and

Lesser Whistling Ducks, Cotton Pygmy Goose, Common Moorhen, White-breasted Waterhen, Red-wattled Lapwing, Little Ringed Plover and other bird species. We can also see wintering bird species such as Osprey, Black-naped Oriole, Spotted Redshank, Painted Stork, Asian Openbill, Black-naped Oriole, Black-winged Cuckooshrike, Oriental Reed, Greenish and Yellow-browed Warblers, Forest Wagtail and other birds. Late afternoon, we will drive to Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary (two hours drive) . In the evening we will do bird watching along the shore of Moeyungyi to see Plaintive Cuckoo, Bluethroat, Striated Grassbird, Thick-billed and Oriental Reed Warblers, Asian Golden Weaver, Pipits, shorebirds and other bird species. Overnight will be at resort in the sanctuary.

Day 3: Moeyungyi Wetland Wildlife Sanctuary – Kyaikhtiyo Wildlife Sanctuary
Morning boat rides on Moeyongyi Lake to see hundreds of Purple Swanphen, Pheasant-tailed and Bronz-winged Jacanas, Lesser Whistling Duck, Gadwall, Garganey and Northern Pintail together with Watercock, Oriental Pratincole, Grey Heron, Cinnamon Bittern, Asian Openbill, Woolly-necked and Painted Storks, Glossy and Black-headed Ibises, Greater Spotted Eagle, Harriers, Black Kite, Black-browed Reed Warblers and many other bird species. Late afternoon we will drive back to Yangon. After lunch we will drive to the Kyaikhtiyo Wildlife Sanctuary. Overnight will be at hotel in Kyaikhtiyo Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 4 to 6: Kyaikhtiyo Wildlife Sanctuary
We will do bird watching three full days at Kyaikhtiyo Wildlife Sanctuary. Here we can see Kalij Pheasant, Vernal Hanging Parrot, Chestnut-headed Bee-eater, Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker, Crested Treeswift, Brown-backed Needletail, Pin-tailed Green and Wedge-tailed Green Pigeons, Black-hooded Oriole, Crested Serpent Eagle, Blue-winged Leafbird, Asian Fairy Bluebird, Rufous Treepie, Green and Red-billed Blue Magpies, Lesser Racket-tailed Drongo, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, Asian Brown and Blue-throated Flycatchers, Vivid and Rufous-bellied Niltavas, Black Bulbul (white head race), Lanceolated and Grey-crowned Warblers, Dark-necked Tailorbird, Lesser Necklaced and White-crested Laughingthrushes, Buff-breasted and Grey-throated Babblers, Brown-cheeked Fulvetta, Striated Yuhina, Plain Plowerpecker, Green-tailed Sunbird and Streaked Spiderhunter and other bird species. Overnight will be at hotel in Kyaikhtiyu.

Day 7: Kyaikhtiyo Wildlife Sanctuary – Kunpun Camp
We will climb down to Kunpun Camp that is situated at the base of Mt. Kyaikhtiyo and about 12 kilometers in distance. Along the way we can see Speckled Piculet, Rufous Woodpekcer, Dollarbird, Golden-fronted Leafbird, Bronze Drongo, Violet Cuckoo, White-rumped Shama, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, Radde’s Warbler, Black-throated Laughingthrush, White-browed Scimitar, Golden, Puff-throated and Stripe Tit Babblers, Olive-backed Sunbird and other bird species. Overnight will be at hotel in Kunpun Camp.

Day 8: Kunpun Camp – Yangon
We will drive back to Yangon. Birding stops en-route. Overnight will be at hotel in Yangon.

Day 9: Departure
City tour or visit to famous Shwedagon Pagoda, the city’s primary Landmark, with its magnificent golden stupa. Transfer to Yangon International Airport for the departure flight at your flight time.


The best time to go is during November to May.

Fitness: The travel does not require a high level of fitness but particularly should be in good general health.
Accommodation: Twin sharing room.
Climate: The conditions are usually hot during the sunny day but cool in the early morning. Raining conditions are unlikely but possible.
Equipment: Recommended gear to bring is sun hat, sun cream, flash light, raincoat and fleece-jacket.
Group Size: Minimum 2- Maximum 10
